New Admission Representative Hired

The Enrollment Management Office is pleased to announce its newest addition, Betsy Miller. Betsy began working as an Admissions Representative full-time on July 1st. After graduating Cottey in 2006, she continued her education at Pittsburg State University where she received the honor of being inducted into Tau Sigma National Honor Society and Magna Cum Laude National Honor Society. In May of 2008, she graduated with a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Human Resource Management. Betsy has recently finished an internship with the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce, where she played a leading role in the planning and overall completion of the annual community festival, Bushwhacker Days. Annual Summer Programs Held June 15-21

Eighty students attended the dance, music and science camps in June: 12 in dance; 25 in music; and 43 in science. This is the largest group of students to attend the workshops. Of the 80 students, half received scholarships and/or support:

  • Thirty-three students received money from P.E.O. chapters around the country. Chapter AK of South Dakota paid the camp fees and airfare for six of these students;
  • Five students received support through a donation from Heritage State Bank in Nevada;
  • Two students received support from the Gear Up program in Fort Scott, Kansas

The following is from the East Valley Tribune about a member of Cottey College of 2010.

When Theresa Bennett  first moved to Mesa, she began helping out at the Cowans’ church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mesa. There she is an acolyte, has worked in the children’s nursery, helps the Altar Guild and has actively worked on holiday outreach projects with low-income people. At her school, she regularly served as the student director of dramas. Bennett has earned $3,500 and $10,000 per-year scholarships to attend a two-year women’s school, Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., to major in history and minor in business. She would then pursue a bachelor’s degree elsewhere.

Game Day at the Griffons

Terri Cox Fallin, Class of 87, enjoys a ride at the game.

Sunday, June 21 was a beautiful sunny day in Nevada.  The Griffons baseball team played against the El Dorado Broncos.  Dr. Rogers threw out the first pitch and everyone enjoyed free popcorn.  Attendance was good and all who came to the game received Cottey lanyards.  It was great to cheer on the Griffons to a win, the final score was 4-3.

Summer Projects at Cottey

Bathroom in Florida Suite                                                Tower removal

Cottey is closed for the summer; however, the campus is not quiet and peaceful. We are repairing a 70 year-old boiler at the Physical Plant, resurfacing parking lots, installing security cameras at key points around campus, and replacing electrical systems to become more efficient. We are in the final stages of renovating all the suite bathrooms with four this summer, leaving five to finish in Robertson. P.E.O and Reeves have already been completed.  Contributions to support the bathroom renovations can be made to the Cottey Potty Fund in care of Cottey's Office of Institutional Advancement.

Work continues on the 2009 Alumnae Directory

Cottey College, in conjunction with Harris Connect, is producing the 2009 Alumnae Directory.  Many steps make up the directory process.  E-mails and postcards for verification are being mailed. In the fall, alumnae will be asked for final verification and given the option of purchasing a directory.  Watch your mailboxes for communication and updates.
